Yes, it would. Everything costs money. The reason this isn't used
is that it takes up more space than you'd think, which reduces the
disc space available for the actual movie. Second, it only eliminates
black bars on 1.78:1 movies, not 2.35:1 movies, so the people that
WANT the feature would be disappointed on roughly 50% of the movies
that could use it. Third, it makes the movie look like crap.

Today, most TVs ship with some form of zoom option. This provides
roughly the same effect and requires no extra programming of the
DVD. If you need to fill your screen, this would be the best bet.

Me personally, I'd rather watch the movie the way it was composed.
