"Scope" is indeed *one* name for the anamorphic film process, and is short
for CinemaScope, the original and very popular anamorphic system developed
by Fox. CinemaScope actually hasn't been used regularly for anamorphic
films since 1967, however its abbreviated name "scope" has become a sort of
generic term for anamorphic. However, referring to it as just "anamorphic"
is perfectly correct as well.
