If you're going to measure the FULL rectangle, from one edge of the
screen to the other, then yes, DVD would have 720 lines across. And
the other standards would be:
Standard 4:3 (measuring the | | | | | horizontally across)

320 - standard VHS or Betamax
440 - cable tv
533 - S-VHS or laserdisc
720 - DVD
