Sure, unless all those ads we see on TV and at the movie theatres are
free and are produced for free. Whether or not it affects sales is still
debated, but costs are created by fighting piracy at the very least that
filter back to the consumer.

True enough. Of course, the amount of crap that was being and is still
being put out that producers expect us to lap up is also a reason that
sales have gone down.
