This seems like a very good idea. You are right, I wouldn't need the
super hi-res stuff until I had what I needed nailed down.
But you say that "this will be done very cheaply by most
facilities".... I have not found a place that would convert PAL
digibeta to anything in NTSC DV for anything less than about $400 an
hour. If you know of a facility that would convert more cheaply then
I'm grateful for any suggestions.

I shot 1080i 60 HDV.
Delivery format will either be an HDV tape or an HDCAM master,
depending on whatever festivals my movie gets accepted to requires.
When you say you "wouldn't bother converting".... is there a way I
could get the PAL stuff to coexist on the same timeline as my HDV
stuff?

I am not using FCP. I am using Vegas 7 right now. Also considering
getting Ulead if I need it, but do not own a Mac.

FCP can mix PAL and NTSC? This I wish I had known. Do you know if
this can be done on Vegas, Ulead, or any PC-based NLE?
Thanks much for your help so far.
