Hi all and I trust this is the right group.

I have a Sony DVD653E DVD video camera and an interesting problem in playing
back the recorded videos.

I dont use the camera all that often but have several clips recorded over the
past 2 years. Recently I made some small videos and went to play them on my
pc but I had a message which said "windows media player encounted a problem
etc.." So I tried the file using real player and had a similar issue.

The camera came with the Picture Package software and when using this I can
play the clips on the pc whilst they are still on the dvd in the camera but as
soon as I down load them to the hard drive I have this problem.

I then downloaded the lastest windows media player 11 and had the same
problem.

I tried to play some of the old clips that had played okay say 12 months ago
but they also have the same problem. Other mpegs I have on the system play no
problems at all.

Okay thinking codecs here. So I downloaded the K-Lite Codec pack and the
classic media player within this package played the clips no problems but the
windows media player and a couple of other small programs I tried will not
play them.

Help! this is driving me crazy as I cannot edit them.

Any thoughts/assistence would be greatfully appreciated.

PC is running Windows XP Pro with all updates.
