So are you saying that tapes recently recorded playback OK?
Do recently recorded tapes play back elsewhere OK?

Does that mean only in the viewfinder, the video out of
the BVV5 is OK?
Likely need something more substantial than "black lines".
A frame-capture image posted online somewhere is worth
1000 words.

That would be my first guess. Of course, if you have been
recording tapes out of alignment, then THEY won't play
back properly after the BVV5 is aligned. Recommend
going through all the tapes to determine which were
recorded out-of-interchange. You might want to dub them
before getting the machine fixed.
