Hi, I have a SanDisk Sansa Express MP3 player (sort-of like a memory
stick-player combo). The way music is put onto this player is by simply
copying .mp3 files onto it into a directory "Music".
So I do that, dragging them out of iTunes; and to keep things in order
I put files belonging to an album into their own (sub-)folder within
"Music".
This works in the sense that the player does find the music. However, a
few quirks persist:
For most Albums it wouldn't recognize the album or composer even though
in iTunes I have entered that info. Specifically, for the first one or
two it worked, since then it didn't anymore. Eventually I found out that
I had to copy them first straight into the "Music" folder (no
subfolder), let the device build its index, and then could move the
files into their own folder (the device rebuilds its index on every
turn-on & it then finds & classifies the files correctly).
More annoyingly, however, in many cases it will list & play in reverse
order (i.e. Track12 downto Track 1), or in some other weird order (a
particular album plays Track 1, 4, ...; then 2, 5, ... etc.). The player
allows access by album or by artist or by song (it has a 4-line screen)
and only "by song" is in the correct order (that one looks like it is
sorted alphabetically, although it correctly sorts "Track 10" after
"Track 9".
Is there a special trick with such players to change the order in which
files are listed and played? I am implying here that most MP3 players
(except iPods) work the same, basically. Is this correct? This is my 2nd
one, and the first one had similar issues.
Oh yes, and I use Mac OS X 10.3.9 & iTunes 4.
