It depends on how you do it.
Audiograbber gives you normalisation when ripping, it does it to the WAV
file so there is no degredation of quality.
As far as already ripped MP3 files go, MP3Trim doesn't degrade the audio,
but I don't know of any other program that does this the same way.
If you convert to WAV, normalise, then convert back [as some programs do],
then you lose a lot of quality, a bit like buying a CD, copying to cassette,
then copy back to CD.
You can find MP3Trim pro shared, here is a web page with the recommended
settings for normalisation.

on my 50k + collection and it worked perfectly and notified of all corrupted
files as well.
