Below is my question and a response from a member of a different group
that might be on the right track, but it's not my answer. Can anyone
help?

When I place a still image between pic 1 and pic 2 in video 1, then
the audio clip in audio 1 splits itself and shifts its halves to
remain under pic 1 and pic 2. I just want to add a still between two
already placed still photos without messing up, especially splitting,
an audio file. Please help.

That's the ripple action of the timeline, Philip.

To override it, hold down the Ctrl key as you place your new clips.

Okay, so by definition in the "Help" section of the program: "ripple
edit-- The automatic forward or backward movement of clips in the
Timeline in relation to an inserted or deleted clip."
So holding down the Cntrl key helps, but it will delete a photograph
if it comes down/overlaps on any part of the photo to the right of the
newly placed picture. Does that sound right to you? That seems to be
what's happening. Thank you for your help.
