100 Hz has been around in Europe for many years.
I see no advantage for LCD for a double frame rate, as the picture
is displayed all the time.
100 Hz was introduced to reduce 'flimmer' here, but flimmer never was a problem.
(Some Americans will claim 50Hz PAL flimmered like hell, but OK, they had
... pulldown horizontal frame jumping to live with, thats is politics.
Many of the big LCD TV sets now sold in Europe are actually 60 Hz, and
I noticed some irregular horizontal movements on some.
First 50 (or 100?) Hz LCDs will appear in the near future or may even be here.
Yes, the problem is also: say you are old and only see sharp close up with
glasses, or just always were that way.., then WHAT can you do?
Buy a 25 meter wide projection screen and watch from a huge distance without glasses?
(Rent a hall).
Or buy a 1920x1080 display, put on the glasses, and creep up at less then
a meter in front of it?
So... as likely the latter, then you can just as well buy a 20 inch monitor
and creep up in front of it.
Each his own monitor.
And this is what I do.
As to all the disadvantages of LCD, I just got a Samsung SyncMaster 206BW 20 inch,
and I have to give this monitor a very high score, 2mS 3000:1 contrast,
1680x1050 @ 60 Hz...., good enough for now, digital TV via the PC, PC does the
conversion, recording, time shift etc.
Best LCD I have seen so far.
The issue is the viewing angle, combined with where you can see sharp.
For me I now have 20 inch at 50 cm, I would need 120 inch at 3 meter,
so 3 meter.... to have the same viewing angle.
