The ATSC standard includes four 1080p options, at frame rates of
23.976, 24, 29.97, and 30 frames per second, so broadcasters could
avail themselves of this if they wanted to.
For most consumers, the primary source of 1080p content is Hollywood
movies on BD (Blu-ray Disc) and HD DVD discs. With the availability of
low-cost consumer-grade AVCHD camcorders with 24p capability, however,
this will soon change as some of these consumers will shoot, edit, and
burn their own 1080p24 content, even if the playback device happens to
be a PS3 (Sony PlayStation 3) game console or a Microsoft Xbox 360
game console with an Xbox HD DVD Player option.
