The standard "should be" XLR on pro cams and RCA on prosumer cams but it
depends on the manufacturer and how cheap they decide to be.
A lot of pro cams have XLR ins (mic/line switchable) but only RCA or
1/8" mini outs as their thinking is that you're going to monitor the
audio on the way in to make sure it's clean and at the proper level.
Do a search on breakaway cables on the rec.arts.movies.production.sound
newsgroup at http://tinyurl.com/24jct4 as they deal with these issues daily.
As a matter of fact, there's a very recent thread on thi snewsgroup

this issue.
