Well.. I took the plunge and got a new PowerMac. Came with iLife 08,
which I'm not sure if you know, has a revamped, completely revisited
version of iMovie. Steve Jobs said they totally scraped the old one
too, so this made me curious too..
So, I thought I'd dive in and check out the newest features..
Wow! It's a lot more complicated than the last version.. However, for
kicks I thought that I'd plug in my Sony AVCHD camera, and guess what..
It's works! Imports all the clips right from the HDrive just like a
still camera. Puts all the clips in the library. You drag them over,
add in transitions, music.. Typical apple good stuff.
I went to publish it too see what kind of options I have. Get this..
In addition to the normal ways out of iMove like DV/DVCPRO or AVI, or
MOV you get..
1) Export to XML for FCP
2) Export to Quicktime
3) Publish is iTV, iPhone, or iPod.
4) Publish to YouTube.
The YouTube one I was curious about, so I thought I'd try it. It's a
new one button publish to youTube without even opening up the YouTube
site. You pre-sign in, accept a 3rd party app, and BANG! publish to
you tube easy as 1, 2,3! Wow.. This is going to sure change how the
average person gets there videos on.. Before I have to admit, it was
somewhat complex in exporting to .FLV files, or AVI, or MPEG-4.. now no
one has to even look at the details.. Wow!
I never even thought of a one button deal.. I just always accepted a
kind of movie out, save to hard drive.. upload to youtube type of deal.
As usual, the app is rock solid so far. Apple does it again in a hidden
jem. Worth the 99 bucks or what ever it cost just for the new iMovie.
It rocks.
