Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ABIGAIL LESLIE IS BACK IN TOWN,
AMERICAN PIE PRESENTS BAND CAMP, THE BIG BLACK COMEDY SHOW: VOLUME 2,
CHILDSTAR, CURIOUS OBSESSIONS, HAPPY HERE AND NOW, IN OLD CHICAGO,
JOHNNY CASH: THE MAN IN BLACK, MAKING UP FACES, and SMELL OF CAMPHOR,
FRAGRANCE OF JASMINE:

ABIGAIL LESLIE IS BACK IN TOWN (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall
score 72/100):
"Assuming you are a typical DVD enthusiast and not a Sarno completist,
there are two reasons to see this movie, and both of them can be found
under Mary Mendum's sweater."

AMERICAN PIE PRESENTS BAND CAMP (reviewed by Eric Profancik, overall
score 75/100):
"I've enjoyed the American Pie series. As is sadly the case with far too
many movie franchises, they get worse with each passing movie. Pie was
amazingly funny; Pie 2 a bit less funny; and Pie 3 even less so. Now we
have Pie 4, and the trend continues."

THE BIG BLACK COMEDY SHOW: VOLUME 2 (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
score 60/100):
"If you're looking for something to tickle your ribs or bust your gut,
The Big Black Comedy Show: Volume 2 will definitely come up short in the
sidesplitting department. It's further proof of the sorry state of
ethnic humor. Here's hoping that Sir Richard is reincarnated as a young
and hungry comic sometime soon. His art form desperately needs him."

CHILDSTAR (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 77/100):
"Now, if the premise sounds corny, it is. Childstar is so soaked in
satire and parody that, unless you are intimately familiar with the
sarcastic biting tone of McKellar's writing (fans of Twitch City or, to
a lesser extent, Kids In The Hall will no doubt understand), you may get
the wrong idea about this film. It drips irony, overflowing like a
marble fountain. Be wary taking anything at face value, because odds
are, you are being made fun of."

CURIOUS OBSESSIONS (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score
45/100):
"I haven't had a whole lot of exposure to old nudie loops, so I cannot
make a blanket statement about movies of this ilk, but the snippets
included in Curious Obsessions make me glad I'm living in this day and
age, as the women featured here look like they were cast straight out of
the dairy section of the local Piggly-Wiggly."

HAPPY HERE AND NOW (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score
55/100):
"The thin, quickly-forgotten plot is the least important aspect of this
movie. The characters don't much matter, either. To tell you the truth,
I'm not sure exactly what is supposed to matter."

IN OLD CHICAGO (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 80/100):
"In Old Chicago isn't good history -- heck, it's not even all that good
a movie -- but it works well enough as escapist entertainment from
Hollywood's Golden Era, provided you're willing to suffer through its
first act."

JOHNNY CASH: THE MAN IN BLACK (reviewed by Kerry Birmingham, overall
score 65/100):
"It's cheap, slapdash, and suspiciously lacking any of Cash's music.
Luckily for its producers, none of this matters altogether too much:
it's Johnny Cash, for God's sake."

MAKING UP FACES (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 75/100):
"If the purpose of this production is to teach by doing, then professor
Furer is a damn fine instructor. But many who really want the secrets to
effective makeup will probably balk at the lack of clear step-by-step
instructions."

SMELL OF CAMPHOR, FRAGRANCE OF JASMINE (reviewed by Michael Rankins,
overall score 78/100):
"Farmanara was as stunned as anyone when his deeply personal script
about a once-great film director making his first motion picture
after decades of government interference was given the green light
in 2000. One might suppose that a film born out of such a repressive
history would fairly seethe with anger, resentment, and bitterness.
Surprisingly, Smell Of Camphor, Fragrance Of Jasmine is not that
kind of film."
