The MI5 dude drove me to desperation the other day... besides
reporting all his posts to Google, I figured out how to work a kill
file in Google Groups! Yay!

If you're already using a "real" newsreader this probably doesn't
apply to you, you already know how to use a killfile. For those of you
on Google Groups, alt.video.dvd will have been pretty much useless for
some time... until now!

Step 1) Get Firefox (yeah, like you don't have it already)

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Step 2) Get Greasemonkey

http://www.greasespot.net/

Step 3) Get the Greasemonkey killfile script

http://www.penney.org/googleGroups.user.js

Step 4) Activate the script
Tools -> Greasemonkey -> Install User Script -> Install

Step 5) Go to Google Groups, users will now have an "Ignore User" link
next to their name.
If you view in Topic List view, each post will have a gray "X" next to
the time of the post.
Clicking either will add that user to the killfile.
Refresh the screen and the posts for everyone you clicked on will
magically vanish.

My only beef with it is that it's user based rather than subject based
so it's not possible to block entire threads. If someone replies to,
say, one of those idiotic MI5 posts then you'll still see the reply.
You just won't see the original message.

You're welcome!
