Copying MP3's isn't the end of the World either. Burning them to a CD-R as
data at work and dragging them over to a folder on your PC at home is
simple enough. Unless we are talking about hundreds or thousands of them!!

Any songs purchased through the iTunes Store would require iTunes on your
PC, as most songs (but not all) are in the M4p format which is an AAC file
wrapped in a DRM wrapper locking it to use on iPods.
