No trick. Basically, an mp3 compatible player is going to just play the
files as it sees them, it won't make use of an .m3u file and will just
skip over it or hang on it, depending on the player.

Just tell Helium to use three digits in the file renaming process.
track "1" becomes track "001" and track two becomes "002" and so on.
They will then play in the order you want.
