Manufacturers frequently change the dye used - even for the "same"
discs - it may be that you have a bad batch / your burner just doesn't
like the new dye :-/ (perhaps there's a firmware update available for
the burner that might help)

Try just burning 4.5Gb of data to a disc, see if the same happens.

If you're burning at a high speed, try burning at a slower speed - it
may be that the drive can't handle the disc reliably at its' stated
speed, but may be able to cope if burned more slowly.
