Of the various standalone DVD players I've owned, none of them have
had the ability to remember where a disc was after it has been removed
and then put back in again on a different day (e.g. with TV boxsets),
in the way that computer DVD players do. Dead handy of course for not
having to sit through all the non-skippable startup BS.

I don't even know if such a beast exists. Anyone care to recommend one?
