I've not had good luck disassembling things -- I usually realize that you
have to detach Tab B before accessing Slot A and break something. The
problem is strictly electrical. I discovered that, if you're really tired
and ambitious enough, you can insert a 6-pin 1394 plug backwards. My
computer didn't mind, but the VX2000 got rather upset when than happened.
Believe it or not, I did exactly the same thing to my TRV20 but,
fortunately, Sony wanted less than $200 to repair it.

In the back of my mind is some law that requires that parts be made
available for 7 years but, I think, if I have to start playing lawyer with
Sony it's already more trouble than it's worth. ;)
