Yes, although what's nice about the PS3 is the periodic firmware
updates that correct errors/add new functionality. Some older
standalone BD (Blu-ray Disc) players can be updated using a disc, but
not via the Internet because they lack an Ethernet port. The
newer/better models include a built-in Ethernet port.

Actually, DVI (Digital Visual Interface), not DMI, in case anyone
wonders.

You can also play games on the PS3. :)
You can also run Linux on the PS3, including OpenOffice (write legal
briefs on the PS3!).
