HD may be here now, but there are still a lot of SD programming
around. Even HD channels from ABC/CBS/NBC etc shows SD programming
material 50%+ of the time. And I am talking about old crappy 4:3
aspect ratio non-HD materials shown on HD channels. The only station
that seems to be showing HD material non-stop is PBS-HD.

Here in San Francisco, 2 of the major networks above broadcast the
fucking 10pm or 11pm news in 4:3 non-HD format on the fucking HD
channel! How lame is that?? There ought be laws preventing this!! ;)

Yes, we have HD channels, but you really only get HD materials during
prime time hours, and even then like half of the commercials are 4:3
SD versions, including a lot of 16:9 commercials that are shown in 4:3
letterboxed in 16:9 HD transmission (you get black bars all around the
16:9 material on your 16:9 HD-TV, WTF? I mean WTF?)

Just because the TV/cablebox says it's a HD signal doesn't mean it's
actually a HD source. It will be a while before everything is
converted to HD and 16:9. Until then, there are a lot of SD 4:3
materials out there and it'll be here for a LONG LONG TIME.

How do you know when HD is really here?

- When you see commercials exclusively in HD on HD channels
- when HD channels shows 16:9 transmissions non-stop.
- When movie trailers are shown in 16:9 HD on HD channels.
- When prime time news on HD channels are in HD.

Until then, it's still a SD/4:3 world out there. ;)
