After using a variety of LCD panels all I can say is:
Hold on to your CRT for as long as possible, even if you only use it for a
final check prior to printing.
LCD panels at many price ranges, granted I have not tried the dedicated
graphics models that are stratospherically priced, can be impossible to
calibrate for WYSIWYG printing without having to resort to some
post-calibration adjustments to how you print in Photoshop.
However wide format LCDs are certainly convenient for use with PS because of
the extra lateral screen real estate.
If LED backlit panels become more available at reasonable prices the
situation may improve.
