I am very close to bying my first HDV camcorder.
However, I have this creepy feeling, that at the very moment that I open
the box, I will realize that I bought the wrong camera...

One thing that bothers me:
As we all know, the CRT based television and computer monitor are a
quickly dying species. It' almost all LCD and Plasma these days.

From my reading, I understand that a crucial component in all
flat-panel TV:s (be it LCD or plasma) is the de-interlacer.
The best de-interlacers do a god job is many cases, and they are
necessary because only CRT-based TV:s can actually handle an interlaced
signal "natively". LCD/Plasma sets have to de-interlace.

So, with virtually all TV sets being sold today being unable to handle
an interlaced signal as it is (they must first de-interlace), why are
almost all consumer HDV camcorders outputting an interlaced signal?

What is a recommendable "entry-level " HDV camcorder that offers a true
progressive picture?
