Superman (1978) and this movie were originally to have been filmed
simultaneously and Superman II was supposed to be completed before
Superman was released. In fact, scenes from Superman II were actually
used as part of the screen test process. But production went over time
and the producers forced Richard Donner to complete post-production on
Superman before shooting on Superman II was complete. After completing
Superman, Donner did not return to complete shooting of Superman II and
was replaced with Richard Lester.
