John,
I've purchased each and every Nero version since its' inception, and version
7 like most of the prior versions was indeed buggy, but mostly corrected by
the time it was replaced by Nero 8, which began the buggy cycle once again.
A very recent update to Nero 8 Ultimate dated November 20th has been
released, but my Nero 8 is still far from being dependable. I therefore
would recommend not buying it, regardless of what the correct currency
exchange allows in terms of cost. I should also mention that my email
complaints to Nero (Ahead) have either not been answered at all, or have
been answered in a mindless robotic manner with such replies as "reinstall",
"check to make sure your camcorder is plugged in", and other such useless
information. They now appear to lack a support web site with forums to allow
other (frustrated) users to attempt to help each other.
I have had many video editing and DVD authoring packages here in the last
few years, and would strongly recommend you look at the scaled-down consumer
versions of either Adobe Premiere (called Elements) or the scaled down
version of Vegas for home users. Both of these sell for under $100, are
reliable, get very high ratings whenever they are reviewed, and offer you
easy learning and excellent results for very little money.
Be warned that neither is really intended for burning audio CDs or data
disks particularly, so you may need / want something else for those
purposes.
