The only problem with your position, as well as the idea the industries
involved have is that there is no need for a higher res format at this
time. 1080 TVs are going to be the norm for a LONG time.
Laser disc lasted over 20 years, and was ONLY supplanted by DVD. DVD is
a better format due to raw size alone. Hi resolution designs that match
the resolution of current video display devices is all we need. Your
"better format" "soon to arrive" is absolutely going to cost far more,
and getting the studios to adopt yet another new design will be far
harder than you think.
They are both going to be around for a LONG time. At least twenty
years.
Between CD Laser Disc, and DVD, DVD has had the shortest lifespan, yet
the highest sales figures. So Us Laser Disc Aficionados are who started
all this for you guys. The cheapness of DVD is what got the studios to
sit up and take notice of the sale opportunities, and now we are cleaning
up the medium to add definition to the art so people like me can say
"Nice...quite a noticeable difference." and the idiots can all piss and
moan about wars, and player costs and drag their pathetic mentalities
through the world while the rest of us enjoy what we have and what the
industry has come up with for us, and YES, PRICE IS the ONLY FACTOR that
will make your remarks fail. It will easily be a decade before any
higher res product makes a debut, and even if some stupid company does
come up with something, bringing it to market on a global scale and in a
competitive manner will be all but impossible with the current method as
a baseline comparator.
