QT Pro is an excellent tool that has so many features that come in handy
it can be a life saver. In my PC days I never rated QT at all and used
it only because I had to in Avid. QT is obviously a fundamental part of
OS X and it just works so much slicker on the mac as you would expect or
at least hope so.

On the Mac QT doesn't have to compete with any other media players for
mime types etc so that problem never really raises its head.

The consumer orientated applications on the Mac generally default to
simpleton mode which I found confusing initially. I was used to setting
things up myself and making the decisions and found it off-putting when
everything was setup by the app. It's just a different mindset. OS X's
UI is vastly superior to Windows IMO but not perfect.
Sounds like the user vicious activity was iTunes searching your drives
for media. If you have a lot of drives and a lot of files it could take
some time. You might have missed a checkbox maybe.
The main reason for me switching was to purchase Shake at a bargain
price as it was made pretty clear to me if I wanted to get a job as a
film compositor I needed to know it inside and out. I now work on Shake
but on Linux when I am at one of the bigger fx houses. I use computers
for a living and I don't care what I sit in front of as long as it works.
