Oh, please, Derek. You don't think the loading issues are over do you?
The next big Disney flick will probably introduce some new super-duper
menuing crapola that just has to be there, but that nothing but a PS3
will load.
That is the history and the current of BD today. You cannot use the PS3
as the bellweather of BD because it isn't. It is just the best of the
players at the moment.
BEFORE BD makes it out of niche status and into the mass market, 2
things have to happen:
1. At least one sub-$200, Profile 1.1 with advanced codec support for
both True-HD and DTS HDMA (either decoded or bitstreamed) I know, joe6p
doesn't have a HT setup generally, but the audio is the thing that gets
the HT types that aren't early adopters off the dime. And PIP is what
it is. Personally I don't give a damn about it, but I have many friends
that do, most of them are not videophiles either.
2. Stability of machines & software. This constant firmware upgrade
thing has to disappear for the mass market. Joe6p just will not
tolerate nor understand why or how to do this.
Do you see that happening now? I don't, maybe #2 will happen sometime
this year, but I doubt it. And #1 just might happen now that Funai is
in the mix. (announced at CES yesterday along with a whole slew of high
priced models)
