I too have been surprised and disappointed with the relatively slow speed of
video editing with the Mac versus a PC, having also owned and used 3
MacPros, most recently the 8 core. For whatever reason, the video editing on
the Mac is just a slow and ponderous activity, mostly when it comes to
rendering. At first I suspected that the speed difference could be traced to
higher quality rendering, but a lot of tests and comparisons of rendered
output demonstrated no apparent gain in quality for the Mac when rendering
the final output, even though the rendering time was much longer. The Mac
video editing apps are full of great features, and I totally understand the
allure of the Tiger / Leopard as eye candy, but I always return to a PC to
do video work despite having MacPros available most of the time. Just my 2
cents.....
