A wide-angle lens shouldn't vignette. I use a WA lens on my HV20. Even
when mounted on a UV filter (I always keep one over the lens) it doesn't
vignette (it will if I stack a polarizer on top of the UV).

Note, too, that if you're observing vignetting on the camcorder's LCD
monitor, it be even more severe when viewed on a television/monitor -- all
consumer and many prosumer camcorders have LCD monitors and viewfinders that
overscan, i.e. you're not seeing the entire image.

I'd return the lens and file a dispute with my credit card company -- this
is fraud, pure and simple. A 37mm WA with a step-up ring is not a 43mm WA.
At minimum, you'lll at least get back your shipping on the original order.
