Betamax players cost about �400 back in the days that was the average man's
monthly salary. (or something)

�120 for a HD dvd player with 7 discs is eff all, and even if it does turn
out to be a dead duck format it's getting to the point where most AV
enthusiasts can afford to write off the cost of the dodgy investment. I
paid �150 for a CD writer once.

I paid �300 for a SACD / DVDA player when they first came out. Can this be
a worse investment?
