Which of colon, hyphen-minus, or right curly bracket, is absent from
your character set? Or are you saying that just because your newsreader
doesn't turn it on its side for you, that character sequence is somehow
invisible to you? There's nothing special about it that makes it less
likely to be seen than any other character sequence -- other than,
perhaps, the right curly bracket, which is absent from the invariant
subset of ISO 646. You should have seen *something*, though.
Still, if you're smart enough to legitimately be self-important enough
to call emoticons retarded, you really ought to have gotten the satire.
