Being DVD-9 doesn't necessarily mean a higher bit-rate. There's plenty of
dual-layer DVDs which still have less than 5gb of space that's actually
used.
Even if a DVD does have a higher bitrate, the encoding may still be badly
done.
Although, while we're on the subject; my copy of Shadow Of the Vampire (the
Lion's Gate / Trimark release, without DTS) is only single layer. Does
anyone have the older Universal release, and is that single-layer or
double-layer? I'm wondering if this is a case of Lion's Gate removing the
DTS for the sake of better image, or for the sake of saving money on a
single-layer DVD)
