It's still a vastly cheaper alternative to buying. What's the point of
spending 20 bucks purchasing a DVD if you're only going to watch that
movie once? And most movies these days are only good for one viewing, if
even that. I do collect DVDs, but am I going to buy a movie like Sahara?
Hell no. A 4 dollar rental will do just fine for a film such as that.

While I'm not one to push Netflix, they've pretty much put an end to
that. Also, the selection in Blockbuster's and other video stores has
increased significantly since DVD took over the rental market.

Never experienced this problem myself, especially since switching over
to DVD. I give the disc a good cleaning and it always plays just fine
with none of the wear and tear issues that plagued VHS rentals..
