If the error message you get is similar to the one that pops up when
other programs fail, then it is either two programs that are
incompatible with each other (do you have any other file-sharing
programs installed on your computer?) or else a problem with invalid
registry entries.

My experience is that if you install utilities that regularly clean out
the registry and optimize your computer (such as Norton SystemWorks
and/or System Mechanic), you will experience far less such problems.

In a nutshell, if you use your computer an hour or so per day, these
problems with inevitably arise within 10-15 days. I'm speaking about
Windows XP, can't say what other OS's might do.

Basically, you HAVE to get one of these "fix-it-optimizer" software
utilities. You simply cannot install/delete/try
again/download/install/delete without eventually cluttering up your
computer with lots of junk files that eventually cause it to
malfunction and pop up error messages.

Also, when you get Winmx up and running, don't fall for the "import the
list of OpenNap servers so you'll have hundreds more song titles to
search from in WinMx" stuff. Unless I've got something really wrong, I
cannot get any song found through the OpenNap servers to actually start
downloading, and yes I'm talking about the servers that i am actually
connected to. You can find any song you ever wanted this way, but you
can never get it to actually download. I've seen more "connection
timed out" and "you are banned, share more files" (my share folder has
500 songs in it!) than I can shake a stick at.

Your best bet to maximize WinMx is to search the WinMx network only,
that way at least some of the hits that you que up will actually start
and complete. My guess is that the non-WinMx servers (OpenNap) are
flooded 10 times worse than WinMx with dummy/false files set up by the
people who lose money when we download songs for free....the RIAA. So
far I've tried to download probably 2000 different popular song titles
through OpenNap and I haven't gotten anything in 2 months of daily
searching. OpenNap sucks ass, as is already warned about at the WinMx
website which says they're usually always busy and you have no
assurance that you will ever get anything to download. Well,
sure....but nothing in 2 months of daily searching?
