Please help!
Recently I had to uninstall a bunch of apps, WinMX among them.
Re-installing all of them worked fine *except* WinMX.
When installing, I get the error : WinMX has encountered an error and needs
to close. This occurs right after the prompt "click next to continue" but
*before* the licence agreement comes up.
WinMX's error log and the Dr. Watson log both show error code c0000005
which is an access violation. According to the stack dump, the licence
agreement was loaded into memory at the time the crash occured.
Doing a Google search on the code shows two possible reasons for the error
: insufficient access rights or bad memory.
I am logged in as Administrator and have used Memtest86.exe to confirm that
all of my memory is fine.
I have also done the following:
1. Uninstalled all other P2P apps and done a Regclean to make sure they were
gone
2. deleted all folders created by the other apps
3. downloaded a fresh copy of WinMX3.53
4. disabled my firewall and antivirus programs
5. uninstalled my registry and crash guarding programs
6. attempted to install through the actual admin account, not just an
account with admin rights.
7. Rolled back XPsp2
To date, none of these have worked.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
