That works most of the time - but I've rented I don't know how many
discs from one of the locally-owned independents that were mauled and
scratched beyond recognition, even "new releases" that were less than
a week old.
Needless to say, I finally just stopped renting there, but I've still
seen plenty of big stores (Movie Gallery, namely) renting out
scratched-up discs. I figure they either need to invest in one of
those "resurfacing" machines or tell their employees to actually check
the disc's play side instead of just opening it up to see if there's
something in the case.
