Hey, of course the "hosts" file is safe! Who said it wasn't? My
goodness, it's just a simple text file sitting in the Windows
(sub)directory created by Microshaft, and all it does is block pesky
advertising sites and the likes. True the file was sometimes prone to
get abused by all kinds of malware shit, but most anti-spyware
applications nowadays protect it from being tampered with. If you
suspect anything wrong with it, open it and just disable or even delete
whatever entries you don't trust. Just as long as you maintain
"127.0.0.1 localhost" this won't mess up anything, believe me.
Happy computing,
