I was skeptical re: a patch from an website posting "fixes" for WinMX, but
after reading enough of the posts here, I thought I'd try it out from:

Downloaded the auto install portion of the patch, let it backup and
overwrite my hosts file, clicked on WinMX, and was immediately connected.
Quick search of my favorite artists & I was back in business. Thanks
vladd44.com for the easy work around. Long live WinMX!
