Weathered Music Warrior Enters the Fray and Says Hello to All

Well, it took me long enough. I've been collecting music in one form
or another for more than 50 years. No joke; I still have my first
kiddie 78 album (back when they were REALLY albums in the truest sense
of the word , like a photo album) from 1953 (and a 1994 re-release of
the same).

During my life I've owned over a quarter of a million 78s,45s,LPs,
cassettes, 8 tracks, reel-to-reels,DATs. CDs and now WAV and MP3s. I
worked in record stores from 1971 to 1998 as aclerk, manager and buyer
of new and used recordings. In 1993 i was forced to decimate my
largest accumulation (130K+ pieces) because I had moved 5 times in 8
years and no one would help me any more. So I sold off almost all of
the weight so I could move on. <I also collect sheet music, music
books, books on music and music mags. I gave up the mags but I still
have a sizeable sheet music collection (100 years of it; about 20+
feet) and book selection.> It was the best decision I could have made
at the time, though I wish I could have recorded a lot before it went,
but I was just a little ahead of the technology at the time.

I probably have more in my head that is really useful but somehow it
all sticks around. I'm kind of known as a "Rainman" in my hometown
area and still get calls from folks (mostly musicians; I'm a lifelong
singer, guiatar and keys player myself) looking for this tune or that
and who did it or wrote it .

So, after a couple of fitful starts about 5-6 years ago (my second wife
glommed the computer and my files with the divorce) collecting in
cyberspace, I have climbed back up to a decentlevel of financial
security. With my third wife's help I now have a new up to date
computer and am rarin' to go.

I believe I can be of value to anyone looking for information on
thousands of recording artists and their works out there. In my
limited time back in, I have already seen that there are a lot of
problems with mislabeling AND outright misrepresentation. Please
consider me a reliable source willing to address any questions. I
won't pretend to know everything about every act or genre, but at my
collections height I had 27 major categories with numerous
subdivisions.

I currently own about 20,000 pieces in my offline collection ranging
from blues, jazz, country and rock 78s thropugh a mess of 45s from the
halcyon rockabilly days of the 50s, rare 45s from the 60s through punk
rarities and a massive collection of great 12" dance, new wave, old
school rap & RnB, a sizable LP collection with a strong emphasis on
acoustic music but not limited to the same. My CD collection is just
as eclectic as you could imagine.

Mostly I search for the obscure artists and recordings I used to own on
vinyl. I'm having a little luck. I just found a VERY obscure 1971 45
only release, "Groupy Girl" by swamp pop mojo juke monster Tony Joe
White. This song has been haunting me ever since I sold the big pile
off. on my way to there I also found a great Live show of his from2004
in Norway. That's what I'm talking about!

I've heard the mundane and popular, too much. Give me the forgotten
and priceless. Most of the recordings I look for are long out of
print, or justr coming in to print again in Japan for $30 a throw. What
can I say? My taste is particular.

I love Americana of ALL sorts, old and new (country, rock, soul,
gospel, blues, folk, bluegrass cajun, etc) unreleased tracks by the
biggies (Hendrix, Beatles, Stones and such) and a lot of great but
wrongfully lost pop classics from all over the world>
.. (Ever hear "The Real Thing" by Russell Morris from Australia? I've
seen it listed, but can't seem to get it to come up. It's a stone 60s
psychedelic classic, out on Raven in Oz)

I've also seen over 1000 concerts in my life (I'm 54). Yep, seen a lot
of the greats. Got some stories, too.

Oh, and did I mention I have a Sony stand-alone CD burner thaT I use to
ransfer vinyl to CD.

Okay, I like to talk, but I promise to keep that to a minimum MOST of
the time.

So, please write. I've been using Bearshar but just had eMule
suggested as being less invasive. Any comments?.
