You can sign up to Itunes and subscribe to lots of free Podcasts. Itunes
simply downloads them into your "My Music" folder stored as MP3's. All
you have to do is transfer them to your MP3 player.
However as I only use Itunes for Podcasts, I switched to iPodder which
is awesome and deals exclusively with Podcasts. Ipodder basically does
what Itunes does with Podcasts, but has a simpler GUI and seems leaner
and quicker. However, Itunes organization in it's Music Store is better
so I selected the Podcasts I wanted to download in Itunes and them
copied their Podcast XLM URL into iPodder and now use it exclusively.
