Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON
BURGUNDY: UNRATED EDITION, CAMILLE, THE CARD PLAYER, DEAD RINGERS,
EMPIRE FALLS, THE INNOCENTS, MONSTER-IN-LAW, and PAUL MCCARTNEY IN
RED SQUARE:

ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY: UNRATED EDITION (reviewed by
Maurice Cobbs, overall score 85/100):
"Anchorman feels even less like a movie and more like a frat party with
a multimillion-dollar budget when you factor in the exhausting number of
cameos featured: Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Jack Black, Vince Vaughn,
Danny Trejo, Tim Robbins, Neil Flynn...What the heck? 'Hey, Tim, you got
a couple of hours? Come on down and be in this movie. It'll be great,
you get to chop a guy's arm off ...'"

CAMILLE (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 95/100):
"There was something about Garbo that made me wish I could be as brave
as her in the face of disease, and made me want to throw champagne
parties whenever I contracted strep throat (which I did once in high
school, with disastrous results). Camille seemed like a wildly romantic
movie to my young mind; a picture of a world where a damaged woman with
a bad reputation would sacrifice her own happiness for the man she
loved. It made me believe in the nobility of suffering for someone else.
I longed for someone to do what Marguerite did for me -- or even better,
find someone for whom I could sacrifice myself in the same way. In
brief, Camille probably screwed me up big time."

THE CARD PLAYER (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 91/100):
"For some, the card game itself may seem anti-climatic, and kind of
inane. But the way Argento handles it, the technological coldness of the
process (the cards appear and turn over in a simple, non-showy manner)
actually heightens the suspense. We do feel ourselves pulled into the
higher and higher stakes of the games, watching the horribly frightened
eyes of the victims as they react to every deal, every reveal."

DEAD RINGERS (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 97/100):
"Cronenberg transformed the material into his most sublime film, a
steady and empathic study of the descent of man. He was transformed as
well, from a cult director with a reputation for gore and chaos into a
mature and cool dissector of character, a skill carried over into films
like M. Butterfly and Spider."

EMPIRE FALLS (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 90/100):
"Watching Empire Falls feels like visiting a small town, meeting the
locals and starting to learn about their sordid pasts through the
broadly whispered town gossip. Everyone has dark secrets, and living in
a small town means that few of them are truly secrets."

THE INNOCENTS (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 97/100):
"A child's voice sings of sorrow and death. Birds chirp in the darkness
before dawn. A woman clasps trembling hands in prayer. So begins The
Innocents, one of the finest ghost stories on film ever made."

MONSTER-IN-LAW (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 82/100):
"The woman who brought to life such rich characters as Bree Daniels in
Klute picked a simple romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez to make her
grand return to the screen. Is she nuts? Not really. Jane knows
something most critics ignore -- people like simple silly comedies."

PAUL MCCARTNEY IN RED SQUARE (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall
score 95/100):
"This new DVD, Paul McCartney in Red Square, captures the performances
from the historic Moscow show as well as the added St. Petersburg gig in
all their energy and enthusiasm like only McCartney can deliver."
