I believe my connections are correct. The Play Out on the cassette
Player/Recorder goes to Line In on the computer. The cassette recording
ports go to line out. I don't know what the sound card is on this E-Machine
and it may be part of the MB. I have done this previously on my Win98SE
machine with no problem which uses a AWE64 Soundblaster. The casettes play
just fine for listening with volume controls set quite low. The signal
levels approach peak indication on the light indicators on the player
without any overdrive during recording. I agree that it does sound like
misconnected crosstalk but I can't see it here.

As you can easily see, CDex has no level indicator. It's entirely possible
that the level of the signal you're feeding it is far below what it should
be. I advise using a recorder that has a working level indicator on it,
such as Waverepair. You can record with the free portion of that program.
I use it all the time for the exact same purpose you're using it for.
Now if the level is REALLY, REALLY faint, chances are you haven't connected
the proper input to CDex, and what you're hearing is crosstalk between two
inputs. What are you using for a sound card?
