Agreed. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to offer cheap repairs
for units damaged by dropping them when they are not sold as something
that is droppable. I mean, who in their right mind drops a unit with a
hard drive in it and expects the people who made or sold it to "make it
right" with them? That's like being pissed off at the builder of your
home because he won't replace the window your kid just put a baseball
through.

Insurance is another thing entirely. You can probably find third party
providers who will offer an "extended warranty" on just about anything.
If you want it to cover misuse or abuse of the unit, though, it is going
to be quite expensive.
Things you can drop: The ball, your pants, a bad habit, a girlfriend.
Things you can not drop: Electronics, eggs, glass objects, your mother.
