Not exactly. Monkey's Audio files have the .ape extension.

Ape tags can be written to mp3 files. They are written at the end of the
file, like an id3v1 file is, but they have multiple fields, much like an
id3v2 file has. Some people don't like id3v2 files because writing or
making major changes to the tag, particularly if the tag has not been
padded, means that the entire mp3 file actually has to be re-written to
the hard-drive, introducing a (minuscule) chance of file corruption and
taking a (negligibly) longer time to accomplish. For this reason ape
tags are becoming more popular with some users of mp3 files despite the
fact that most (all?) portable players and most software players do not
read them or handle them correctly.

Foobar2K users seem to like them a lot.
