life is just tough all over isn't it?
most recording companies aren't really hurting that much and if one goes
under, there are 50 others that will take up the slack.
personally, I'd rather pay the artist for his/her time and talent than some
faceless company that takes all the money and screws the artist.

they are fast becoming irrelevant. more and more artists are publishing
independently and making their own money (some of them quite successfully
at that).
