Surely the majority of DRM'ed music downloaders don't. That's one side
to it. Another is that our CD and vinyl collections are scattered in the
form of dozens or hundreds of CD's and LP's. If one CD or LP fails, the
owner has only lost that album. Not the entire collection. The same
majority of DRM'ed music downloaders I just mentioned but a moment ago
tend to keep their entire DRM'ed music collection on one single medium -
their computer's hard disk drive, sans backups. WHEN (not "if") the hard
disk fails, their entire collection is lost.
The music industry and online stores are well aware of this, and they
like it. It means potential second sales of the same material to the
same customer. It means profit.
