You're assuming everyone's an idiot. It's not like no one ever loses their
entire hardcopy collection to fire or flood or theft. I don't know a single
individual who hasn't backed up their collection of MP3s, etc., if they have
a sizeable collection. Most of my peeps even back up their digitized music
even though they also have the hardcopies, since re-ripping would be such a
pain. In fact they are probably more concerned about those than they are
keeping some of their financial records and other assets safe. Losses of
digital music would be covered under most homeowners policies as well, as
long as proof of purchase was available and the particular hazard was an
insurable one.
